Southland

2018 Meeting

On Monday, December 3, 2018 at 6:30pm in the Wayne B. Chapel we will host our Annual Congregational Meeting. We will vote on our new Board of Elder candidates and approve the 2019 Operating Budget. All Southland partners are invited and encouraged to participate in this meeting.

Get to know the elders

Each one of these men has an active personal prayer and devotional life. They are all part of Groups where they receive encouragement and share life with other families and encourage all our Southland family to get involved on mission and in service.

Craig Avery

Craig and his wife Dori have been involved at Southland since 1975. They raised their three kids here, and are now grandparents of five - soon to be six! He is a retired engineer and businessman. Craig uses his gifts and abilities with young business leaders (210Leaders) in Lexington and around the world as part of Global Missions. He serves on the Prayer Team and his deepest desire is to help others find Jesus and grow in Him. God has been teaching him lately that “He loves me as much as He loves Jesus. He loves you as much as He loves Jesus.“

Daniel Groves

Daniel first started attending Southland in 1989 as a student at Asbury University. He’s been married to Danelle for 13 years and they have two sons, Nathan (11) and Evan (9). Daniel is Owner/CEO of a Lexington-based tech company. In response to this nomination, Daniel said, “I love the people of our church, community, and state, and I’m humbled by the opportunity to be a small part of bringing Jesus to the lost and hurting.” Daniel helps prepare backpacks for students and teaches his boys the value of recognizing the needs of others and serving. He loves the book of Proverbs because of the wisdom it provides for practical, everyday living. Daniel says God has been daily unveiling his inadequacy and is teaching him to be more reliant on Him.

Ariea King

Ariea came to Southland in 2008. He has been married to Casey for eight years and they have two daughters and one son. Ariea is a Paraeducator at Bryan Station Middle School where he works one-on-one with a child who has a traumatic brain injury. Ariea serves in Student Ministry and is part of the Prayer Team at Southland. Biblical community is a staple of Ariea’s life, and he described what he’s been learning recently from these friends by saying, “God has been showing me that unchecked pride and jealousy is extremely toxic to my faith and relationships. I have to submit my will, surrender my concerns, and trust and leave all the consequences to Him.” For him, Eldership is truly a calling from the Lord to serve in this role and he wants to be obedient to that call.

Marc Manley

Marc first started attending Southland in 1997 when he began dating his future wife, Jennifer, who he married in 1998. They have three children: Emma Grace (16), Owen (14) and Eli (6). Marc has been a nurse for over 24 years and is currently working as a nursing leader at a very large academic medical center here in Central Kentucky. Marc serves on the Prayer Team and is a teacher/mentor with Southland’s Pre-Marriage Ministry. Marc has had the opportunity see God do some absolutely amazing things in and through our church. It is a humbling honor for him to be nominated again to serve Christ and His Bride, the Church, in this way. Currently, God is working in Marc’s life to help him be fully present and to embrace God’s timing in everything.
