Southland has the privilege of partnering with elementary schools at each of our campuses. We have had the opportunity to impact our partner schools by focusing on three basic areas:
Backpacks - Food items are collected at each of our campuses to fill the bags we need. Food lists can be found at the bins in the lobby as well as on our website. There is a team of volunteers that gather weekly to sort through the donations and put bags together to be sent to schools. Delivery teams transport these bags to schools on Fridays.
Staff Encouragement - We have a staff appreciation volunteer at each partner school. This group of leaders finds creative ways to encourage each of the school’s staff. Each leader spends time with the administration and office to learn how to best meet the needs. Most importantly, we get to lift them up in prayer.
Mentors - Southland trains and sends mentor volunteers to each of our partner schools. We work with Family Resource Coordinators who are already in close communication with families and know their needs. These mentors are then paired with a student and schedule a regular time each week (30 minutes) to come to the school and invest in this child.
The bible is filled with stories that remind us you don’t have to be perfect to make a difference in someone’s life. In fact, there are many reminders that the unqualified person is the one that God is calling. If you are hearing that call, are ready to step out and transform the life of a child, we would love to hear from you! Check out the Local Outreach page for opportunities.
