Coming Together To Show God’s Love
Jul 10, 2017

Extending hope to people both inside and outside of our church walls is one of the expressions we focus on here at Southland. We have amazing volunteers, staff members and a church family who invest their time, energy, resources and talents to love and serve others. Whether it’s giving a hug, lending a hand, or just providing a listening ear- it’s incredible to see our church family come together to show someone the love of Jesus.

One of the ways many people in our church have come together to extend hope was for a widow as she walked through the heartbreak of losing her husband. It’s such an important job being one of the first people someone sees when they walk into our church.  A smile or upbeat attitude can completely change someone’s day.  An usher who served in this woman’s section at church was described as “warm, welcoming and approachable.” The greeter at Connection Point was friendly, upbeat and made her feel welcome. Another usher came up and asked how she was doing and offered to pray with her.

Our church didn’t stop loving her there. When someone sacrifices their time and offers the power of prayer, it can make a huge difference. Volunteers serving in the prayer room prayed over her husband when he was sick. Several members from Southland came to the hospital to visit him. They laid hands on him in prayer and offered good conversation and company. Connections she had made serving in various ministries here allowed for more community, prayers and support during such a difficult time.

She has since moved back to her home state of New York and continues to watch messages online with her 89 year old neighbor. She tells people there, “If they want to feel the love of God, they need to go to Lexington.” Wow! What a testament of how God is using the people of Southland to be the hands and feet of Jesus not only within our church and central Kentucky, but across the country!
