Backpack Donations

CONTACT
Betty Hawkins

Simply add at least one of the items from the food list to your grocery shopping each week. Drop off bins are located in the lobby of each of our campuses.

The Impact

We are so glad you have decided to join our mission of feeding hungry kids on the weekends in our local schools. We currently partner with 5 Elementary Schools at our 4 campuses: Tates Creek & Breckinridge in Lexington, Warner in Nicholasville, Lemons Mill in Georgetown and Jennie Rogers in Danville to feed approximately 600 children throughout the school year! Without your donations, this outreach wouldn’t be possible! The purpose of the Backpack Program is simple - to feed hungry kids. Each backpack is packed and delivered with the love of Jesus and has the potential to change a child’s life.

The Impact

Southland partners with 5 elementary schools at our 4 campuses. We ask each of our mentors/tutors to set aside 30 minutes each week to meet with a specific student. Time between mentors & students may include helping with homework, eating a snack, playing a game, talking about your weekend, reading a book, etc. And hopefully eventually the student will open up to you to talk about life outside of school so you can listen & encourage them. Mentors help students gain confidence, social skills & educational skills to succeed in life.

The Impact

We’ve all heard the old Chinese Proverb, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” That same philosophy is the foundation for our Life Coaches.

Our life coaches meet with clients three to six times. They assess needs, evaluate current financial condition, provide tools to help families get a handle on their spending, project future expenses, and life within a budget. Our goal is to help families become healthy and enjoy a sustainable future.

Join us to see how you can become a life coach! You don’t need a financial degree or a career in banking, just common sense and a desire to help.

Prison Ministry

CONTACT
Max Appel

We assign our volunteers an inmate to visit during regular visiting hours and ask them to build a relationship with that person.

The Impact

Southland’s prison ministry is about the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. We serve prisoners behind bars, victims of crimes, families torn apart by incarceration, and those impacted by criminal activities. We focus on building relationships as well as assisting people in their transition back to the community. Once released, we will help a person find job training and placement, clothing, housing, a life coach, small group involvement and church participation. We visit inmates in adult detention centers, juvenile detention centers, state prisons, and federal facilities. We are currently serving in five central Kentucky counties.

Room in the Inn

CONTACT
Max Appel

From November through March, we need volunteers to help us on Saturday nights! There are 7 different opportunities: food preparation, drivers, overnight hosts (men only), set up, socializers, giving devotions, and prayer team. We’d love to have you join us & we look forward to hearing from you!

The Impact

Room in the Inn is an incredible program that touches the lives of individuals facing or transitioning out of homelessness. This program offers our guests the opportunity to get out of the cold, have a home cooked meal, sleep in a clean bed, grab a shower, use laundry facilities, eat a hot breakfast and take a bag lunch with them the next day.

School Staff Encouragement

CONTACT
Betty Hawkins

Volunteers create ideas each month, purchase items needed, assemble & deliver to the school.

The Impact
