I have worked at Southland since November, 2015 in the Global Missions Department. I get to help people go on mission trips - so that’s helping them with information to make a decision on where to go, along with the logistics of getting airline tickets and the in country details organized and paid for prior to departure.
I love interviewing people for trips and finding out why a particular trip was chosen. Nine days out of ten there are tears during this interview time. That’s when I know God has a hold on their hearts and has called them into service and into the field.
My most memorable mission trip was meeting my sponsor children in Ethiopia. Seeing their faces, meeting the people they live with, seeing the dirt floors and single lightbulbs in their dwellings is humbling. Where are their bathrooms and how do they cook? The youngest of these two was afraid of me for two days. She wouldn’t come near me, but once she decided I was safe, she wouldn’t leave me alone. Pure. Joy.
My husband and I collect coffee from the various places we travel. Ethiopia and Haiti are two of our favorites! He sent me this joke today: Did you hear about the woman who insisted it was a man’s job to make the coffee in the morning? She showed him The Bible where it says Hebrews!
AHHH! we can't find them!
