I am so thankful to be a part of this church family—and this week specifically has been so special to watch. In the midst of a pandemic and all the challenges that come with that, our church was able to adopt 1,300 kids to shop for this Christmas and will be providing a nice Christmas meal for more than 300 families in central Kentucky. Not only that, but all of the kids were chosen in less than 24 hours! That’s crazy! I love that our church is made up of people who know how generous God has been to them and are so ready and willing to extend that generosity to others.
Matthew 5:14-16 reminds us, “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” (NLT)
That scripture came to mind today as we just wrapped up our series GLO: Shining Brightly in a Dark World. Church, you shine the light and hope of Jesus into our community by the way you love and care for struggling families, sacrifice and shop for kids you’ve never met, the way you provide food every week for kids through backpacks. He shines through you when you care for the sick, when you bring meals to each other, when you drop what you are doing to pray for each other. In John 13:35 Jesus said, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (NIV) Keep loving well and shining bright!
