Deconstruction: The Foundation - Tuesday

This Week’s Verse

2 Timothy 3:16-17

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (NIV)

I’m a sucker for a good story. Growing up, before my head hit the pillow, I would stay up late and let my imagination be whisked away to indescribable sci-fi worlds and magical kingdoms through stories I read or stories I made up in my head. To this day, I am still drawn to stories, regardless of format and structure, from movies and podcasts to books and poetry. There’s something sweet about a really great story that grips you and grabs your attention.

What I love about the Bible is that it’s God’s story. It’s the living, breathing Word of God with stories about real people and real events that give us a window into the Lord’s heart for His people. From creation to the Cross and everything in between and after, it all points to Jesus.  John 1:1-5 NIV says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him, all things were made; without Him, nothing was made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. That light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” Scripture comes straight from the words of our good Father who loves us and cares for us deeply.

Not only does the Bible point to Jesus, but it also reflects the story of God’s heart for His people as well as His history with His people. The narratives of redemption in the lives of Old Testament heroes like Abraham, Isaac, Moses, and David display the Lord’s faithfulness, and the account of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection offer an invitation to new life in Him.

Reflection

As you reflect on Scripture today, think about how God’s heart for His people is revealed in what you’re reading. Rather than contextualizing it to you and your situation, take a moment and ask the Lord what it reveals about HIS heart rather than your own.
