BIG: Sovereign
By: Michael Rossini
1 minute read

Ephesians 1:19–20 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. (NLT)

Hopefully we truly recognize God’s sovereign power over the world. It’s because of this power that we bring ourselves before Him with prayer and petition, knowing there is so much in this world we cannot control. Only through God’s power can we find hope for real change.

We also go to the God of our faith because of His great love for the world. How do we know this? In a word: Jesus. “Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.” In spite of our best efforts to reshape this world into something that was not His original intention, God has faithfully engaged with the world since the beginning of time—always with an arm outstretched to His people, always offering a better way forward.

Through Christ, He displayed power over sin and death, and the victor was Love. The same power that raised Jesus from the grave now lives in us through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our lives. This is the beautiful work of a Sovereign Lord who loves His creation lavishly. Because we are no longer beholden to the authority of death and decay, “to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21 NIV). We are totally free under the reign of King Jesus.

So... today is a new day. With the rising sun, we can cast our allegiance to King Jesus, trust in His sovereign power, and live as ambassadors of Love. God is doing incredible things every day in the lives of His people, reconciling the Earth back to Him, and we definitely want to be part of that story!

Go to this passage in Colossians and read Paul’s song—Christ is Supreme. Bonus points: Read it when you wake up every morning for the next week!
