Luke 2:10-11 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord." (NIV)

Of course the most glorious birthday party ever must begin with a great birth announcement. I recently received a beautiful birth announcement from a young couple. On the front was a picture of the sleeping baby, curled up in a tiny little basket. As much as it melted my heart, and as much as those parents were proud to show off their tiny creation, it is likely that no stars appeared in the East, and no angels rimmed the sky. For the birth of a Savior, however, God pulled out all the heavenly stops.

Now, here’s the thing that makes my heart skip a beat every time I read this story: The birth of this child was for me, and for you. “...A Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” This child was to be like no other, before or since. This child was born with a job: reconcile mankind to God. Save everyone. No wonder this child’s birth announcement was written in the skies!

Friends, as you celebrate Jesus this week, I pray gratitude fills your heart and spills out onto those with whom you cross paths. May the salvation available to you be the greatest joy others see IN you. His work is complete in each of us who choose Him as Savior and Friend. He endured the Cross for “the joy set before him” (Hebrews 12:2). What exactly was that joy? Friend, it was you.

What have you been saved from? Take a moment and thank Jesus for it.
