Luke 2:16-20 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and see, which were just as they had been told. (NIV)

This could be my favorite part of the Christmas story. This is the part that I count on. This is the part that removes my doubt and solidifies my faith. Friends, when God says it, you can take it to the bank. Twice in this passage, we are told that what the shepherds had been told came to pass.

Verse 16 tells us the shepherds found the birthday scene just as it had been described. Then verse 20 says that because of this, they couldn’t help but glorify and praise God. When God acts on our behalf, it’s impossible to keep silent about it.

Truth. Wrapped in strips of linen, lying in a barn. Heralded by angels, visited by kings. Humble birth. Royal reception.

Whatever this Christmas Eve brings you, the gift the world received more than two millennia past is still the greatest gift ever. May the Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace be the center of your celebration. Your heart, God’s home.

The birth of Jesus reminds each of us that from this point forward, nothing will ever be the same. I’m praising Him for that truth! How about you? Merry Christmas, friends.

What truth do you absolutely know about God? What is something God has done in your life that others need to know about? Who will you share it with?

Please join us at each of our campuses for Christmas Eve celebration services today at 2pm, 4pm, and 6pm!
