The Top Shelf: The All-Powerful God — Friday

Psalm 19:14
May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
(NIV)

We’ve been on a journey together this week, with Psalm 19 as our guide. We the began the week by acknowledging God’s majesty and glory as evidenced in creation. Out of that creation-inspired awe, we turned to Scripture to listen to God’s instruction and learn more about who He is. Because of what we learned about His character and His commands, we chose to be obedient and allow the Holy Spirit to change our hearts. Today, we worship Him.

The very last thing that David does in Psalm 19 is worship God. He turns all of his words, his work, and his heart over to God and asks that it be pleasing to Him and for His glory. So that’s what we’re going to do today. Set everything else aside for a moment, and let’s walk through a time of worship together.

  • Take a listen to the song “Worthy” by Elevation Worship. You can check it out on Apple Music, Spotify, or YouTube.

  • Spend some time praying. Acknowledge the things about God that make Him praiseworthy. Thank Him for the way He loves you.

As we wrap up the week, remember that the movement in Psalm 19 we’ve been studying and following is something we pursue daily. There will be times when we do it better than others, but every day that we choose to follow Jesus, put Him first, learn from His Word, and praise Him, we’ll grow closer to Him and know Him better.

If you don’t know where to start when it comes to Bible study, I’d encourage you to pick a few verses or a chapter from one of the Gospel books (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) each day. Read it, and then study it using a commentary like Enduring Word to help you go a little deeper into the context of what you’re reading. Then pray and praise. Making this a daily rhythm gives us the opportunity to get to know the all-powerful God we serve and begin to look more like Him.

Friday’s Reflection

As you go into your weekend, make a commitment to acknowledge God for every incredible thing you see. Give Him thanks for all the moments you see glimpses of His power.
