For Heaven’s Sake — Wednesday

John 14:2
“My Father’s house has many rooms…” (NIV)

We’re talking this week about Heaven as we try to comprehend the incomprehensible. SpaceX or NASA can’t get us there, but faith can! Invite God into the equation, and the implausible becomes plausible; the impossible becomes possible.

According to scripture, there’s only one passkey to Heaven: Jesus. That message hasn’t changed for 2,000 years, nor will it ever change unless God decides otherwise. Meanwhile, because of Jesus, we can eagerly anticipate an eternal extension of our lives that will be infinitely better than life here. In fact, many of us have a boatload of friends and family who are, even now, living the dream. If they could speak, they’d say, “Don’t let one tear fall, for what you dream of, I can see, and friend, it’s worth it all.” For them, the mystery is history! And for those of us who remain, it’s “not yet, but soon.” Can you imagine how eager they must be for the upcoming reunion? I’m guessing they’re giddy with anticipation.

Someone asked me recently, “Why do you believe Heaven is real?” I said, “I believe it’s real based on the authority of Jesus Christ, who said, “In My Father’s house are many rooms; if that were not so, I would have told you, because I am going there to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2, NASB). He replied, “That’s not good enough for me.” I said, “I respect that, but please, please know that I can hardly bear the thought of going to Heaven without you. If you ever want to dive deeper into the ocean of faith, I’m happy to join you and go as deep as you want to go.”

He wasn’t pleased with my reply, and I was truly grieved. Once you know that you know something, it’s painful when others who don’t know what you know, suggest that you’ve somehow been duped. Anyway, I’ll stick with Jesus as my guide. He’s led me quite well thus far.

Wednesday’s Reflection

Imagine trying to explain to a baby in the womb how wonderful it will be on the other side of the tunnel. He knows just two things: warmth and safety. He cherishes both, yet there’s so much more! If he could imagine green grass, laps, the ocean, horses, rainbows, walking, running, surfing, biking, wide open spaces, roller coasters, ice cream, and the expanse of a nighttime sky splattered with millions of stars… do you believe for a moment that he’d choose to stay where he’s at? There’s much I don't know about Heaven, but I know enough to want to go. How about you?
