Joy—Philippians 3
Weekend Scripture: Philippians 3
Who have you placed your confidence in?
Scott leads us through Philippians 3 as we continue our series on Joy. Everyone has credentials, things we think can "get us in" to where we want to go. Paul has a lot of religious credentials, even claiming to be blameless under the law. But instead of boasting, Paul says to count it all as loss and exhorts the church at Phillipi that the only credentials that matter, the only One we can place our confidence in, is Jesus. You really get to know Jesus when everything you hold dear is stripped away, and all you have is Him, proving His faithfulness and giving you joy in the pain. When you sin, fall short, and mess up, you can remind yourself, “I know a guy… His name is Jesus.”

Joy—Philippians 2
Weekend Scripture: Philippians 2
To live is Christ and to die is gain.
Scott walks us through Philippians 2. Jesus poured Himself out, emptying Himself of the riches of heaven so that we could be saved by His grace. According to Paul, Jesus said that it is more blessed to give than to receive. The most joyful life is the one spent for Jesus, reaching lost and broken people. The path to being full of joy is emptying yourself out. If you aren’t experiencing the joy of Jesus, it’s because you aren’t emptying yourself out for Jesus.

Joy—Philippians 1
Weekend Scripture: Philippians 1
Choose joy when the future is uncertain.
Carl Kuhl joins us to launch our new series on Joy. In Philippians 1, Paul sets an example for the church at Philippi to practice gratitude and choose joy no matter their circumstances. If you want to be confident that God is not done, double down on gratitude. Join the battle, link arms with your church family, and fight through prayer. Our hope is in Jesus, and He has the eternal victory.

Freedom—To Bear Each Other’s Burdens
Weekend Scripture: Galatians 6
None of us will ever be above needing help.
This week, Connor finished up our Freedom series with a look into Galatians 6. Paul calls out the performance-based gospel of the Galatian people and challenges it with the true gospel of grace. Only Jesus lived a perfect life, which means that every single one of us is capable of falling into sin. We all desperately need Jesus, and when we receive Him, we need to extend His grace to others.

Freedom—In the Spirit
Weekend Scripture: Galatians 5
Be killing sin, or sin will be killing you.
This Sunday, Scott dives into Galatians 5 where Paul encourages the church in Galatia to live by the Spirit. Even in our walk with Jesus, we will still face, struggle with, and be tempted to sin. But we must join the Holy Spirit daily in continuing to crucify our flesh. When we live by the Spirit, He supplies what we need to grow. He shapes us, changes us, transforms us, and enables us to become more like Jesus.

Freedom—As a Son
Weekend Scripture: Galatians 4
What does it mean to be a child of God?
This week, Matt walked us through Galatians 4, focusing on freedom through our adoption into God's family. God redeems us, places us in His home, and proclaims that we are His. Because of the gospel, we know that our identity is found solely in Christ. And if what we believe shapes how we behave, the gospel shouldn’t just inform the way we live; it should transform the way we live.

Freedom—For Good Works
Weekend Scripture: Galatians 3
What are you going to do with the new you?
This week, Scott dives into Galatians 3 and the rough crowd of the city of Galatia. The Galatian people had a wild and extreme heritage marked by violence and paganism. This is why Paul wanted to be so clear to the Galatian church: Jesus, and only Jesus, can set us free. You became a Christian by grace through faith in Jesus because there is no other way.

Freedom—From the Law
Weekend Scripture: Galatians 2
Because Jesus is for everyone, His followers must welcome anyone.
Scott walks us through Galatians 2. Christ came to set us free, and that includes freedom from the Law. We are not justified by works, but through faith in Jesus Christ. Justification by works produces both hypocrisy and cowardice, and both pull us out of line with the Gospel. If we are going to be a resilient church built on Jesus' authority, we have to grow in flexibility and in strength, in grace and in truth. Which do you need to grow in?

Freedom—From Your Former Life
Weekend Scripture: Galatians 1
Jesus + nothing = everything.
Scott kicked off our next series on Freedom with a look into Galatians 1. Only Jesus sets us free from our slavery to sin. He is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. You have been set free from your former life to walk in the freedom that comes through Christ alone!

Easter at Southland
Weekend Scripture: Psalm 90, John 20:31
Why do you seek the living among the dead?
Scott walks us through John 20 and Psalm 90 as we celebrate Easter. We all have a deep longing in our souls for home, a place with people we love and who love us under the care and protection of the good Father. But we try to fill our souls with things that won't satisfy us. We look for the living among the dead every time we look to temporary things to fill that eternal longing of our souls. But He is not here, for He has risen, as He said.

Salvation
Weekend Scripture: John 11
Come and see.
Carl Kuhl joins us to talk about Salvation. Through no actions of our own, through nothing we've deserved, God offers us each an inheritance: salvation by grace, through faith. We worship the one who defeated death, who calls us out of the grave, and who makes all things new. Who can you invite to come and see?

Truth—Week 2
Weekend Scripture: John 8
It is possible to have Jesus right in front of you and miss Him because of lies.
Scott jumps back into John 8 as we finish up our series on Truth. Jesus has made it clear that we have a big problem: our slavery to sin. But the good news is that He has come to set us free. Who do you know that needs to know Jesus?
