A Hunger for God’s Word - Friday
Today’s Verse
1 Peter 3:15
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect (NIV)
When we commit to posturing our hearts toward loving God and loving people, we build a desire to spend time with God and learn more about Him through His Word. When we commit to spending time with God and learning more about Him through His Word, God uses this to mature us, growing our love for Him and His people. See that cycle? It’s pretty cool.
1 Peter 3:15 encourages us to always be prepared to give reason for the hope that we have in Christ. This year, let us put on the full armor of God so that we might prepare for what lies ahead. After all, we need God no matter whether we are at a mountaintop or in a valley. Each day, come to God in prayer and spend time in Scripture. Let us arm ourselves with the Truth, that we may prioritize the Lord as our home base in an ever-changing world.
Earlier in the week, we talked about how a Biblical worldview is foundational to life as a Christian. We won’t always get it right—we are imperfect humans, and forever students on this side of eternity. But here’s the good news: Our God is consistent in character—He is the great I Am. Unlike the world, God is constant, dependable, and good. He is our firm foundation. Psalm 1:1-3 says, “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.” One step at a time, let us strive to follow Christ into the story He is writing for our lives.
REFLECTION
As you look ahead to the new year and look behind at the year that has passed, consider how you can plant your roots in the living water. Each day (really, each minute) is a new opportunity to glorify our Creator in the way we live our lives and love others!
