A Hunger for God’s Word - Monday
Today’s Verse
Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. (NIV)
Everyone sees the world through a lens of beliefs. These beliefs, in turn, affect or inform how someone processes what they see and experience; this is a worldview. For example, someone who believes that humanity is fundamentally good will always be disappointed by corruption, whereas someone who believes that humanity is fundamentally evil will always expect corruption. See the difference?
You see, as we ask these questions and experience life, God gave us two revelations to point us toward Himself: God’s general revelation (creation) and special revelation (Scripture). Put simply, God has revealed Himself to us through nature and through Scripture.
There are a few fundamental principles that Christians stand on (you can read more here, under “What We Believe”). As followers of Christ, we are committed to a Biblical worldview, allowing God’s special revelation (Scripture) to inform how we see and process life.
So, if a Biblical worldview is foundational to loving God and loving people as Jesus did, how can we learn more about it and align our hearts with how God has asked us to live our lives? One way is to study Scripture and spend time with God in prayer.
You might’ve heard someone talk about their quiet time with God. Whatever you call it, spending time set aside for prayer and reading Scripture is a great way to learn more about God’s Word, who He is, and how we can live our lives to honor and glorify Him.
How we spend our time reflects what we give importance to—we spend time cooking because we know that food will nourish our bodies, and we spend time with friends because we know that fellowship is essential for living well. Spending time with God is much the same—when we prioritize studying Scripture, we receive spiritual nourishment through the Word of God. When we prioritize prayer, we opt into fellowship with our Creator. Think about that for a moment—isn’t it amazing how the Creator of the Universe invites us not only to get to know Him better but also to have an intimate relationship with Him? God wants our hearts!
REFLECTION
Today, make a specific plan for where, when, and what you will study in Scripture this week. Ask God to open your eyes to the opportunities He has set in front of you each day.
