Playlist: Happy Songs — Friday
Psalm 100:5
For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation. (NLT)
Our current teaching series, Playlist, is a look at Psalms, a book filled with song lyrics that cover the whole spectrum of human emotion and experience. From celebratory to tearful, the songs express both what it means to be human and also what it means to be loved so immeasurably by the Father. Sunday’s message was about one of the happier songs found in Psalm 100. This short chapter provides instructions on how to worship, along with reminders of our identity as children of the Father.
The New Testament reiterates the teaching of Psalms, reflecting a central truth that cannot go unnoticed: It’s impossible to worship without gratitude! In two different letters to early followers of Jesus, Paul makes the point:
Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 5:18b-20, NLT).
Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father (Colossians 3:16c-17, NLT).
Psalm 100 profoundly proclaims that we have access to the Father. He wants us to approach Him and appreciate Him. A sure sign that someone has been truly converted and filled with the Spirit will be revealed in how submissive, joyful, and thankful they are, and their worship will reflect that.
Psalm 100 concludes with another declaration of God’s goodness and love for us. It is a love without end. And worship is one way that truth is shared from one generation to the next.
Friday’s Reflection
Today’s invitation is simply this: Prepare now to bring a grateful heart to church with you on Sunday and worship from that place.
