Psalm 84:4
Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. (NIV)

Let’s end the week with a fun story…

Somewhere in the Namib Desert (southwest Africa), Toto’s song “Africa” is blaring from a set of speakers thanks to Namibian artist Max Siedentopf, who spent December of 2018 constructing an art installation on the rugged desert landscape of his home country.

His goal? That the sounds of Toto’s rock anthem “Africa” be heard in perpetuity. To that end, Siedentopf connected six speakers to an Mp3 player set to play the song on a loop and placed it in an undisclosed location in the vast 31,000-mile desert. According to his plan, the use of solar batteries will ensure perpetual power and allow the 80s hit song to play over and over… and over.

That may seem silly, but let it remind us of the perpetual song being sung in Heaven—the truly never-ending song of praise being lifted up to the Almighty God. It’s not simply one song on repeat, but it’s the continual praise and worship to our eternal God. One day, we will join in that song.

Revelation 7 describes the scene: “…I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all the tribes, peoples, and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb… and they cried out with a loud voice… and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God...(NASB).

Worship flows from our awareness of who God is. Someday, we will be much more aware than we are now. 1 Corinthians 13:12 reminds us, “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known” (ESV).

We will finally see how all our praises, even our best and purest, were little more than underestimations of all His grace and goodness and love… and it will take us eternity and longer to express the joy of that.

He’s worthy of every song we could ever sing. Worthy of every praise we could ever bring.

Friday’s Reflection

Today’s challenge is simple: Listen to some worship songs and truly sing. Don’t just have it on in the background while you work or while you’re exercising. Make it a priority. Focus on the words. Just you singing to your Creator.
