Deconstruction: The Foundation - Thursday

This Week’s Verse

2 Timothy 3:16-17

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (NIV)

When I was in elementary school, there was a Christian teen pop band that recorded a cover of a song called, “Thy Word.” I remember putting that CD in the CD player and rewinding and listening to that song over and over again. Not only are the lyrics about Scripture, but they also come straight from Scripture! The first line of the song declares, “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

The Bible - God’s Word -  guides us. That song echoes the cry of Psalm 119:105-107, 112 (NIV). “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow Your righteous laws. I have suffered much; preserve my life, Lord, according to Your word…My heart is set on keeping Your decrees to the very end.” Through Scripture, God offers us a glimpse into His heart for how He wants us to live. He desires for us to live in step with Him daily. Galatians 5:16 says, “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” For us to walk “by the Spirit”, with Jesus, we need to be able to discern the voice of our flesh (our sinful nature) from the voice of the Holy Spirit.

To know our Father’s voice, we need to know what He sounds like. Because Scripture is God-breathed, we know that we can trust it because we know its Author is trustworthy! It provides us with a solid and true framework for us to hear from Him. God sounds like what He wrote. When we allow His words to lead us and shape us, we are allowing Him to lead us and illuminate our steps.

REFLECTION

As you read Scripture today, ask God to guide you through His word. Ask Him to continue to show you the difference between His voice and yours!
