Freedom — For Good Works – Wednesday

TODAY’S VERSE

Ephesians 2:10

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (ESV)

A potter knows his workmanship and is proud of it. He knows how he shapes the clay. He knows how the fire transforms it. He makes things with a purpose and for a purpose. In a similar way, this is true of God, our Creator. Your Creator knows you and created you with a purpose. Even before you were born, God had prepared good works for you.

God fulfilled the law and freed you from it. He wants your heart to be fully surrendered to Him so that you can do the good works He has set before you. Throughout the Bible, we see that a heart transformed by grace through faith leads to the overflow of good works. Paul makes clear that we can’t boast in these works but rather use them as a means to glorify God. How we glorify our Creator can look many different ways, but God made each of us with a singular purpose to fulfill.

Some of us glorify God by leading others in worship and helping usher them into the presence of God. Some of us glorify God by writing and preaching so that people can know the truth and experience God’s wisdom. Some of us glorify God by completing administrative tasks so that people can know the God who cares for every detail of their lives. We all have different gifts and passions, but they all serve the same purpose: to glorify our Creator.

APPLICATION

On Sunday, Scott asked the question: “What are you going to do with the new you?” and “What have you done with the new you?” Take some time to reflect honestly on this today. Consider inviting one or two close friends to process this together.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for creating me in Your image and for a purpose. Give me discernment to know how to better serve and glorify You in my life right now. May You open doors and start conversations that allow me to point to You.
