Freedom — To Bear Each Other’s Burdens – Friday
TODAY’S VERSE
Galatians 6:14a
But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ… (ESV)
Recently, we have done some renovations at our home and been prepping for our youngest to graduate college and get her own place. Consequently, my parking spot in the garage has been a combination of secondhand furniture and construction supplies for quite some time. Other than having to scrape ice off my windshield in the winter, I miss the garage the most when I am unloading groceries. Unless it is completely impossible, I’m usually determined to carry it all in one trip. And if someone tries to help me on my way, my usual response is that I can get it myself.
Now, I know this is a little ridiculous of me. Not only am I rejecting the help I so obviously need, but I am also preventing someone else from serving me.
Where are you in your walk with the Lord? Are you in a place where you need help, or a place where you need to help… do you need to get help or go help?
What Paul recognized and wrote about in Galatians is that none of us has anything to boast about other than what Jesus has done for us. If you are in a place to help others, you probably recognize what they need because you, too, have needed that help before. We can’t forget what Jesus has saved us from in our own lives. If you are in a place where you need help, know that others have walked that road as well.
Whether it’s something like addiction or secret sin that is trainwrecking your life, or you need wisdom from someone more experienced in parenting, there is someone who can help. And if you have overcome addiction or walked through hard seasons of parenting and come out on the other side only by the grace of God, there is someone for you to help. Being farther down the road doesn’t give us reason to boast about what we have done, but it isn’t about what we have done. Our response should be to give God glory for His kindness and mercy and thank Him for His unending grace. What a privilege to help others down that road!
Let’s walk in freedom together as we all boast about the cross of Christ and what He has done for us.
