Head-Heart-Hands — The Physical Side of Christianity - Tuesday
Today’s Verse
1 Corinthians 13:3
"If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing." (NIV)
Have you ever done something good, but your heart wasn’t in it? Maybe you donated to a cause but felt no real connection to it. Or perhaps you helped someone out of obligation rather than genuine care.
Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 13 that even the most sacrificial acts—giving away everything we own or enduring suffering—are meaningless if they aren’t motivated by love. That’s a bold statement. It means that our actions alone aren’t enough; it’s the heart behind them that truly matters.
Jesus understood this. When He healed the sick or fed the hungry, He wasn’t just going through the motions. He felt deep compassion. He saw the person, not just the need. His love transformed every action into something meaningful.
Serving out of guilt or duty might accomplish a task, but it won’t bring lasting change—to others or to ourselves. Love is what makes our faith in action powerful. It turns simple acts of kindness into glimpses of God’s kingdom.
Think about the last time you helped someone. Were you fully present? Did you do it out of love or out of obligation? When we shift our mindset to see every act of service as an opportunity to share God’s love, our faith becomes alive in a new way.
REFLECTION
Are you serving others out of love, or just duty? Ask God to renew your heart and fill it with genuine compassion. This week, take time to serve someone without expecting anything in return.
Faith in action is more than just doing—it’s loving.
