Let’s Dance: Leading My Actions – Monday

James 1:21
“Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you which can save you.”
(NIV)

You’ve heard it said that “Love is a verb.” I believe that. When you’re dating someone, you may say, “I Love You!” but it’s only true when you show it. Most of the feelings we have while dating are infatuation, desire, even lust. But if you are truly in love, you do things for them and with them. You help with chores, go with them to help them shop, and support them with difficult decisions. You stand by them in seasons of trial and trauma. And you try to be the best version of yourself at all times. That means beginning to eliminate the things in your life that don't make God happy and aren't good for your relationships with others.

In this series, Let’s Dance, we are striving to let the Holy Spirit lead us in our everyday lives. And this week we’re talking about our actions. Part of leading our actions is changing our behaviors from those of this world to those pleasing to God. Start praying Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Let God tell you what He wants you to change and then let Him do the work of restoring you to right behavior. And then commit to memory Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - His good, pleasing, and perfect will.”

Our goal is to please God with righteous behavior, and loving actions. Letting the Spirit lead you in this endeavor is always the best way to accomplish it. We can never achieve righteousness on our own. If we could, we wouldn’t need Jesus. He came to Earth to restore us back to the Father and it came with tremendous sacrifice. If you are in a relationship with someone, dating, marriage, or even just friendships, doesn’t it make sense to leave your baggage at the foot of the cross? Letting God heal you of that is what’s best for you and your relationships.

Monday’s Reflection

Spend some time today reading the scriptures above and asking God to reveal to you what He wants you to change. Allow Him to begin renewing your mind and restoring you back to right behavior.
