Word Play: Account Ability - Wednesday
Joshua 1:6
“Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them.” (NLT)
It’s been said that “great leaders do what others don’t and say what others won’t.” One of my favorite characters in the whole Bible is Joshua because of who he was as a leader. Before Joshua was installed as a leader, he trusted in God’s promises, plans, and power. When he actually became the leader of the Israelites, Joshua continued to trust in God and was faithful and obedient to Him for all of his days.
Whether you’re a mom, gardener, business leader, grandparent, or waiter, you have things in your life that you are responsible for. Whether it’s the tables you wait on or the kids you’re raising, you have responsibilities. A couple of my responsibilities include leading in my marriage and shepherding high school students at our Lexington Campus. I can’t do either of those things without God’s Word. I would be lost without the Bible. It truly is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105). If you allow it, God’s Word will renew your mind and transform your thoughts (Romans 12:2). In fact, God’s Word is alive and powerful, even revealing our innermost thoughts and desires (Hebrews 4:12).
God gave Joshua an incredible opportunity to lead His people into the promised land, but one of his first commands to Joshua was to obey the Bible (Joshua 1:7). If we are going to live out our purpose and our calling, we must allow God’s Word to hold us accountable—to teach us what is good, right, and true in every aspect of our lives.
Whatever it is that you are responsible for, let the same words that God spoke to Joshua many years ago encourage you today: Be strong and courageous, leader.
Wednesday’s Reflection
Read the first chapter of Joshua and take note of what God repeats to Joshua over and over again. Approach your leadership responsibilities this week with strength and courage because you know that God is with you and for you.
