Resilience — Flexibility - Monday
TODAY’S VERSE
Acts 8:4
Now those who were scattered went about preaching the word. (ESV)
Have you ever knocked over a dandelion gone to seed? Within seconds, a hundred tiny parachutes lift into the wind and drift across your yard, multiplying, rather than destroying it.
In Acts 8, the church in Jerusalem was under violent attack. Stephen had just been stoned to death in the street. Families were dragged from their homes. By every visible measure, this should have been the quiet ending of the Jesus movement. Instead, Luke tells us the opposite happened. Persecution didn't extinguish the church; it spread the gospel like dandelion seeds in the wind. Believers who fled for their lives kept preaching wherever they landed. Samaria, a region most Jews had avoided for centuries out of prejudice and history, suddenly had a front-row seat to the gospel, delivered by people who never chose to go there.
What strikes me the most is this: God didn't wait for safer circumstances to accomplish His purpose. He took the very thing designed to crush the church and let it become the mechanism that grew it.
Maybe your life feels scattered right now. Maybe job loss uprooted your plans. A friendship quietly ended. You’ve had to make a move you didn't choose. A diagnosis rearranged your whole calendar. It's tempting to see disruption only as loss, like something to survive rather than something God is using. But God doesn't waste your scattering. He has a long history of taking what was meant for harm and turning it into a harvest no one saw coming (Genesis 50:20).
You may not be able to see the seeds being planted right now. The believers fleeing Jerusalem certainly didn't feel like missionaries; they felt like refugees running for their lives. But their obedience in the middle of chaos changed the trajectory of the early church for centuries. Your faithfulness in a hard season may be doing far more than you can currently see.
APPLICATION
Write down one disruption in your life right now, whether big or small. Instead of asking God to just remove it, ask Him to show you what He might be doing through it. Who is in your path this week because of, not in spite of, your circumstances?
PRAYER
Take time to bring a season of change or hardship before God. Ask Him to help you see this season through His eyes instead of only your own.
Lord, when my life feels scattered, remind me that You are never surprised and never idle. Help me trust that You can grow something good out of what feels like loss. Use even my hardest seasons to point people toward You.
