Seasons: Spring — Tuesday
John 10:10
“I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.” (MSG)
There was a time in my early Christian life when I read this verse and believed Jesus was solely talking about life in Heaven. Surely this life couldn’t even come close to the life to come, right? I can humbly admit now that I was wrong in my interpretation. Jesus meant that a full and better life begins the very second we are saved. The life we have now in this physical world is preparation for our life in eternity—which means, through that preparation, we can begin to experience now the life Jesus talks about in this verse.
I love the way the Message puts it: “real and eternal life, more and better life.” How could this sinful and broken world allow us to have more and better life? In his letter to the Philippians, Paul writes that “to live is Christ.” What exactly does this mean? It means that to truly live, we must live for the glory of Christ—our life’s purpose should be to magnify Christ in everything we do. This means that all of our goals, focus, and desires should be directed toward Jesus. We do this by imitating Him in every aspect of our lives. Whatever Jesus did, whatever Jesus said—we do, too. Despite what the world may tell us, this is the only way to experience life at its best and fullest.
You’ve probably heard someone say before, “You just need Jesus.” It’s become a bit of a cliché saying in Christian circles, but in all honesty—the more I’ve come to know Jesus, the more I’ve come to know this saying to be true. Whatever the world has to offer, it could never compare to the satisfaction found in knowing Jesus. Feeling down? Run to Jesus. Feeling anxious? Trust in Jesus. Feeling happy? Celebrate with Jesus. Feeling grateful? Thank Jesus. Want to really live? Know Jesus. In knowing Him, we find real and eternal life—more and better than we could ever dream.
Tuesday’s Reflection
Listen to the song “Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me” by CityAlight, and reflect on what it means to simply know Jesus and find life through Him.
