The Telephone Game — Gossip vs. Instruction - Monday

Today’s Verse

1 Timothy 4:6

"If you point these things out to the brothers and sisters, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed." (NLT)

Imagine a 230-foot-long rocket plummeting back to Earth after launching a spacecraft into orbit. It’s falling fast—thousands of miles per hour—until suddenly it fires its engines, slows down, and starts aiming for an impossible target: two mechanical arms attached to a towering launch structure.

This was the scene earlier this year when SpaceX attempted one of the riskiest landings in spaceflight history. The goal? Not just to land the rocket safely —but to catch it mid-air. If the rocket was even slightly off course, it would slam into the tower or topple into the ocean.

Yet, as the world watched, the booster drifted perfectly between the waiting arms, engines cut off, and the arms clamped down around it like a giant hug. The crowd watching live erupted. The video flooded social media and went viral—not just because it looked cool but because it was a perfect display that alignment matters.

This Sunday, Scott gave us a clear reminder: Our speech and our actions must align. It’s not enough to say the right things—we have to live them out.

This is Paul’s message to Timothy; part of being a “good minister” means not just teaching truth, but living it. Words can inspire, but actions must match up. If we claim to follow Jesus but cut corners, shade the truth, or act selfishly, our faith loses credibility. People notice the gaps.

Misalignment in our lives may not cost us millions in rocket damage, but it does cost something: trust, integrity, and the opportunity to point others toward Christ.

Today, reflect on your words.

Are there areas where your speech and actions don’t match? Maybe you talk about patience but snap under stress or say you value generosity while clinging tightly to your resources. Ask God to reveal inconsistencies and give you the courage to close these gaps.

REFLECTION

Usually, it’s in small drifts or getting off by a few degrees. Use this week as an opportunity to course-correct so you don’t miss the target. Reflect on how your actions align with your words. Are you living out the truths you say you believe?
