Unsung Heroes: Zeal of Timothy — Monday
2 Timothy 1:4-5
Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. (NIV)
I feel so privileged that I grew up in a family that immersed me in ministry from the moment I was adopted. My dad was a pastor, following the footsteps of his dad, and my mom comes from a line of traveling gospel singers and missionaries. From a young age, I can remember getting to our church early on Sunday mornings and helping my dad put prayer cards on the seats inside the gym where our church plant met. I would often stick closely to my mom’s side as she greeted members of our congregation as they walked into the building. Long before I really knew Jesus, my little heart loved being in His church. Even today, I see my parents faithfully serve here at Southland, investing in my peers through their Young Adults small group and pursuing intentional discipleship with GenZ. I am so grateful to be in a family that is all-in for kingdom work in a way that is not meant to grow their own personal platforms, but in a way that grows God’s kingdom by making His presence known to others.
No matter what age you are or what your background is… God wants us all—regardless of what generation we’re from or what our demographic is—to seek His kingdom together, shoulder to shoulder. There is so much to learn from the multi-generational nature of the Church because that is the way God designed it to be! We are not meant to only be surrounded by and serve with people who are in our same stage of life. There is so much growth and encouragement that comes from spending intentional time with people from all generations who are also seeking to make Jesus’ presence known to others. Investing in those younger than us, and being invested in by those older than us, is how we grow.
Monday’s Reflection
Who are you investing in? Take some time today and ask God who you can be pouring into.
