Humble Pie: Erasing the Lines — Tuesday
Romans 12:6-8
In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. (NLT)
A classmate of mine shared with our class how she came to know Jesus. She talked about moving to the United States and going to the grocery store. An ordinary experience, an ordinary day. She noticed a homeless man outside of the grocery store. She watched as a random bystander offered to buy the homeless man groceries. The stranger went around the grocery store with the homeless man, buying him anything he needed, and then paid for it. My classmate was shocked at the display of kindness—so much so that she knew there was something different about this interaction. She knew it had to be Jesus. My classmate decided after watching that interaction to seek out Jesus, and she became a Christian. I doubt that stranger had any idea of the significance and ripple effect their random act of kindness had that day!
Sharing the gospel doesn’t have to look like standing on a stage preaching. It doesn’t have to be teaching a Sunday school lesson or hosting a small group at your house, although it certainly could be those things, too! Sharing the gospel looks like serving your neighbors, using your unique gifts to serve the church, and—when given the opportunity in conversation—telling people about the hope you have in Jesus.
God will use a number of different avenues to spread the good news of the gospel. All we have to do is be ready and available to use our gifts for His glory.
