Humble Pie: Erasing the Lines — Thursday
1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (NIV)
I have a boring testimony. I’m not a good writer. I’m not good at public speaking. I’m awkward. These are lies from the enemy that keep me from doing ministry. There are many days I’d rather be in bed napping than doing the hard work of ministry. It’s hard, it’s messy, and it requires fighting a spiritual battle inside of me telling me that I’m not worthy of the call.
The enemy likes to make us doubt our calling. We get distracted by our weaknesses and convince ourselves that we aren’t really called, and somebody else would be a better fit.
When God called Moses to lead the Israelites, Moses replied, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent… I am slow of speech and tongue.” God reassured Moses by saying, “Who gave human beings their mouths?... Is it not I, the Lord?… I will help you speak and teach you what to say.” Moses was still not convinced. He replied to God, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else” (Exodus 4:10-13).
You might have heard this quote before: “God doesn’t call the equipped. He equips the called.” Paul understood this concept when he explains in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
Don’t let your insecurities get in the way of how God may want to use you. God can use every part of your story. God can use every part of your personality. He can use your interests and talents all for His glory. When God calls you to something bigger than yourself, trust Him to do something big in and through you.
Thursday’s Reflection
Is there something God is calling you to do, but your fears and insecurities are holding you back from it? Can you lay down your fears and insecurities and embrace His power working through your weaknesses?
