Faith — The Covenant - Friday

TODAY’S VERSE

Psalm 8:3-4

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? (ESV)

The Creator of the universe cares for me. How is this even possible? My brain struggles to comprehend it sometimes. The God who created the ocean, the trees that surround me, the animals that are so majestic, the mountains that tower over me, and the Creator of my favorite people… He cares for me. But why would He?

He cares because His children are precious to Him. He created you and me to be His image bearers. He cares for us because He created us intentionally, and all other creation was made to reflect glory back to Him. And yet, we all fall short of deserving His care.

I try to control my life by making decisions without seeking my Father’s counsel. I fall short by allowing my pride to take the driver's seat. I don’t deserve the care of the Father because of my sinful nature. And yet, He still cares for me. He teaches me how to be a better follower of Him.

One way the Lord cares for us is by stepping into our stories and rewriting them for us. When we think we are doing well to write our stories, God reminds us that He is the one one who holds the pen. This awareness can be through big things or through small things. Through a life-changing experience or through a simple sunset.

On Sunday, we heard a song that highlighted that so well by stating, “I am ink in the pen in the hands of The Author.” We are simply the product of what God is writing in and through us. We are the broken vase that God is piecing back together, for His glory. The Lord is mindful of you because He loves you deeply and fully. This Lord is mindful of you because He sees His child, fearfully and wonderfully made for His glory. Hand Him the pen and watch your story become undeniably God’s story.

APPLICATION

Take some time today to identify some areas in your life you keep trying to control. Surrender them to God, allow Him to take the pen, and recognize Him as the Author of your life.

PRAYER

Lord, who am I but Your child who loves You? Take this area of my life and help me to trust You to write it. Give me a spirit of surrender to You and Your will. Show me Your goodness through Your unwavering faithfulness in my life.
