Faith — The Covenant - Thursday

TODAY’S VERSE

John 5:8-9

Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked. Now that day was the Sabbath. (ESV)

A “God moment” is truly unexplainable by the human mind. These moments are filled with awe and joy. One of these moments can change someone’s whole life. One of these moments can change whether someone believes in the One God and accepts the salvation He offers.

This is exactly what happened to the lame man at the pool of Bethesda. We might not know this man’s name, but we do know that he had a “God moment” that changed his life and his eternity. Take some time to read John 5:1-17 right now. Through this passage, we see that this man had been lame and waiting for a miracle for thirty-eight years. The pool of Bethesda was also known as the “House of Mercy” because some believed that an angel would sometimes stir up the water of this pool, and the first to step in would be miraculously healed. Some people would have friends or family carry them to the pool because they couldn’t walk. But this man couldn’t walk and didn’t have any friends or family to help, so he waited for his miracle.

But Jesus showed up and chose this one man to heal. What a God moment, that Jesus would choose to heal this man, who has been waiting for thirty-eight years. That day, the day that he was healed, was actually Sabbath. No work was supposed to be done on the Sabbath, and the Jews took this very seriously. The lame man took up his bed and walked because he believed in Jesus’ words and who He said He was. That faith impacted his eternity, and he knew Jesus more deeply because Jesus chose to heal him.

Jesus took this man’s story into His own hands and rewrote his present and his future. He showed up just on time because He knew what was best for this man, and what would glorify Him the most. We may not understand the waiting period of this man’s healing, but we can know that it was from God and Jesus used it to expand His Kingdom.

APPLICATION

Are you waiting for a God moment to happen? Have you experienced one before? Write down one of the God moments you’ve experienced and share it with someone who hasn’t heard it before. If you are waiting for one, tell someone that you are waiting and ask them to pray with you.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I am grateful for your Word, that I get to witness God moments in other people’s stories. Send me a moment that can only be explained by You that I might grow closer to You and trust You even more.
