Fine Print: Worship Wholeheartedly — Monday

Matthew 22:37
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’” (NLT)

The tallest building in the world has held its crown since 2009. It’s called the Burj Khalifa, and it’s located in Dubai. (Fun fact of the day: It is 2717 feet tall—that’s twice the height of the Empire State Building.)

I’ve never seen it in person, but I love how one author described his visit: “Impressive skyscrapers fill Dubai, but the Burj Khalifa looms over them all; it’s on an entirely different scale. Even from far away, it was hard to crank my head back far enough to see all the way to the top. The closer I got, the more imposing and striking its structure became. As I walked, there was no thought of the other buildings; they were simply not comparable in stunning architectural grandeur and perfection to this one. Once inside, we took an elevator to the 125th floor. As I stepped to the windows to scan the city, I immediately commented on how small the rest of the buildings looked. Those “small” buildings were skyscrapers that, in any other city, would have been the buildings you wanted to visit! They looked unimpressive, not worthy of my attention.”

Such is the greatness of God. There is nothing like it.

If you allow yourself to gaze and meditate upon His holiness, whatever has previously impressed you or commanded your attention, simply can’t compare.

But sadly, I don’t always live with God’s skyscraper holiness in view. I don’t always look at everything else in life from the height of that perspective. And when I don’t, other things seem bigger or more impressive than they are.

So this week, as we continue discussing what it means to worship wholeheartedly, I hope this visual illustration helps you see God more accurately. Let it put everything else in its proper place. Because when God becomes the object of our affection and attention, we discover the kind of fulfillment the world cannot supply.

Monday’s Reflection

When it comes to God’s greatness, what helps you remember how wonderful He is? Let the lyrics of Southland Music’s song “Bigger” help remind you today just how incomparable He truly is to everything else.
