Head-Heart-Hands — The Physical Side of Christianity - Friday

Today’s Verse

Matthew 5:16

"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." (NIV)

A lighthouse doesn’t shine for itself. Its purpose is to guide others safely to shore, to cut through the darkness and show the way. Without its light, sailors would be lost, unsure where to go.

In the same way, our faith isn’t meant to stay hidden—it’s meant to shine. Jesus tells us to let our light shine before others through our good deeds so that they will see and be drawn to God (Matthew 5:16). When we live in a way that reflects Christ, our actions become a beacon that points others toward Him.

But here’s the catch—light is only noticeable in darkness. It’s easy to blend in with the world, to live just like everyone else. But Jesus calls us to stand out, not for attention or self-glory, but so that others may see God through us. Our kindness, our generosity, our love—these aren’t just good character traits; they are evidence of God’s work in our lives.

Think about the people who have impacted your faith. Maybe it was a parent, a mentor, or a friend whose kindness and love reflected Jesus in a way that drew you closer to Him. They didn’t just talk about Jesus; they lived like Him. Their light was real, and you noticed.

That’s the kind of faith we are called to live out—a faith that isn’t just words but action. A faith that sees the hurting, feeds the hungry, loves the outcast, and serves with joy. It doesn’t require grand gestures. Sometimes, the smallest acts—a kind word, a listening ear, a helping hand—can shine the brightest.

The world is full of darkness—pain, division, loneliness. But light always overcomes darkness. As followers of Jesus, we have the opportunity every day to shine in the way we treat others, the way we love, and the way we serve.

The question is: are we shining, or are we hiding?

REFLECTION

Are you letting your faith be seen or are you keeping it private? Take time today to pray, asking God to help you be a light in your community, school, or workplace. How can your actions this week reflect Christ’s love in a tangible way?

Faith isn’t just for you—it’s a beacon that draws others to Jesus. Shine brightly today.
