TODAY’S VERSE

Ephesians 2:14a

For he himself is our peace… (ESV)

How many times have you said, “I just want some peace and quiet!”? Between my two boys constantly screaming at each other and making the most obnoxious noises, I think I’ve said this no less than a thousand times.

When I think about peace, I tend to picture all the things that make me feel calm, comfortable, and far away from the chaos of everyday life. But the truth is this: Those things can only offer temporary peace. I can easily picture myself sitting by a warm campfire, sipping hot apple cider, and simply listening to a creek trickle over the rocks. But eventually, the fire burns out, my apple cider gets cold, and I have to come back to reality — and two boys who are probably fighting again!

Ephesians 2:14 reminds us the peace we need most isn't found in a place; it's found in a person, Jesus Christ. Before Jesus, we were separated from God because of our sin. But because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, we no longer have to live separated from God or try to find peace in the things of this world. Through Christ, we can experience peace even when our everyday lives are anything but peaceful.

This doesn't mean our lives will always be quiet, or that we won't ever face conflict, stress, or chaos. It does mean that even in the middle of the noise, we can rest in the truth that we belong to Him. My boys might not give me five minutes of peace, but I can still have peace in knowing that Jesus has made a way for me to be close to God. This also allows me to have joy even when I’m stepping on Legos and telling my youngest to put his shoes on for the twentieth time. We’ve been brought near to God through Jesus. We don't have to wait for life to get quiet before we can experience His goodness. Our peace begins with the presence of Jesus, not the absence of problems.

The world offers us places where we can escape the chaos, but Jesus offers us a relationship with God that gives us peace in the middle of it — the kind that doesn't disappear when the campfire goes out, or the fighting starts again!

APPLICATION

This week, challenge yourself to pause in the middle of the chaos, take a deep breath, and turn your attention to God. Instead of asking Him to change your circumstances, ask Him to remind you of the peace you already have because of your relationship with Him.

PRAYER

Father, I am so wonderfully reminded that Jesus is our Prince of Peace for a reason. Help us remember that true peace isn't found in a perfect situation but in Your presence. When life feels loud, overwhelming, or chaotic, remind us that we can draw near to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
