Let’s Dance: Leading My Prayers – Friday
Matthew 6:9-13
“Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” (ESV)
As a 24, almost 25 year old, there are still a lot of transitions into adulthood that I’m navigating through. My early twenties were filled with a lot of highs and lows from friendships to finding stable housing and everything in between. As I head into my mid-twenties (SCARY!!!), I've been realizing there are still certain things that I avoid bringing to Jesus in prayer because I’m afraid that His answer won’t be what I want. There’s a nervousness in me that doesn’t know if the desires of my heart will line up with the desires of my Father.
But why would I be afraid of the words of my Father when He only has my best in mind? Why would I avoid hearing His words when I know that He is the only one whose words will be unfailing? In full transparency, the Holy Spirit has gently been stirring up this conviction in my heart pretty recently. Above anything else, I want to look more and more like Jesus. Ultimately, if I am chasing after Him, I know He will align my heart with His. The same is true for you. As you chase after Jesus, He will align your heart with His. When you ask Him for real transformation, He will give it to you in abundance.
Friday’s Reflection
Heading into this weekend, bring God your “scary” prayers. Bring Him the prayers you’re afraid to bring Him. Ask Him to help you be okay with the discomfort of an answer from Him that doesn’t look like what you thought it would. Ask Him to help you trust that He’s a really, really good dad who only has your best interests in mind. You also don’t have to do it alone! Each of our campuses has a text to pray number. You can head over to southland.church/care and select one of the text to pray options, and someone will be on the other end to pray with and for you as you submit your prayer request.
