Father’s Day - Monday
Ephesians 3:18-19
And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. (NLT)
Have you ever heard the song “Monday Morning” by Fleetwood Mac? Mrs. Hester would play this song every Monday morning in Biology class to get us dancing, moving, and get the blood flowing. There wasn’t a Monday morning that passed that school year without our whole class whining out the lyrics, “First you love me, then you fade away… First you love me, then you get on down the line, but I don’t miiiiiiiiiiind.” (If you’re a Fleetwood fan, you get it). The song is about a guy who’s into a girl that just keeps playing games and blowing him off.
I’m not entirely sure why, but I often feel as if God fades away from me. I’ll hear a great sermon, read an incredible Bible verse, or experience God’s love in some tangible way and feel like God’s extremely close and near. A day or week will go by and inevitably I no longer “feel” His presence. It makes sense in my mind that God has more to worry about and deal with than little ol’ me. And why would God want to worry about someone as sinful and messed up as me anyways? Truth be told, I wouldn’t blame him if he had chosen to give up on me.
Yet God never gives up on us. His incredible love is wide, long, high, and deep. It’s unfathomable. I like to think of it this way: A good doctor does not get angry when his patients need him. On the contrary, a good doctor finds his purpose and joy in taking care of his patients. It’s the same with our loving Father. He takes tremendous pride in binding up our wounds and redeeming our brokenness. God will never fade away from us; however, we must remember to let ourselves fall into the warm embrace of our loving Father.
Monday’s Reflection
Crank on the Fleetwood Mac, and fall into the warm embrace of your loving Father today. Let God’s love for you renew and transform your mind and heart as we begin a new week. Pray and ask God to help you live in the fullness of life and power that comes from the love of our Father.
