Father’s Day - Tuesday
John 8:29
”And the one who sent me is with me—he has not deserted me. For I always do what pleases him.” (NLT)
Do I have any basketball fans out there? What about the NBA Finals?! What a crazy ending to the NBA season. Well, I never made it to the NBA. I believe the statistics show that less than 2% of high school athletes make it to play Division 1 sports. My basketball career ended on the hardwood in Rupp Arena. As a high school senior, it was a dream come true to get to run out of the tunnel for the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen Tournament onto the floor where Kenny “Sky” Walker, Rajon Rondo, Jamal Mashburn, Rex Chapman, Keith Bogans, and so many other incredible players had played. Go Cats!
My team ended up losing in the final four after beating the two of the best teams in the tournament. I really thought we could win it all after beating Lexington Catholic and Ballard, but as my coach would always say, “One day, your ball will stop bouncing.” He meant that eventually, everyone has to quit playing for one reason or another, so enjoy every moment of basketball that you get. He wasn’t just talking about basketball, though. What he really was teaching us was that in everything we do, we should be grateful we have the opportunity to do it.
In John 8:28, Jesus foreshadows His coming death on the cross by saying that when He is killed, people will then understand who He truly is. For many of you, you know all too well what it’s like to take someone for granted while they’re here on earth. Maybe for some of us, we feel the guilt and regret of not making that phone call or telling that person we loved them while we had the chance. Let’s not make that mistake with our Good Father.
As Jesus knew full well, our Good Father is with us 100% of the time through His Spirit. He will never desert us. There’s incredible hope and power in that promise from our Father. Fortunately for us, our ball is still bouncing. We have breath in our lungs and the opportunity to thank God for all He’s done for us by glorifying Him with our lives.
Tuesday’s Reflection
It’s a great day to tell God how grateful we are for His love. We get to live in His power, provision, protection. He deserves the glory because of who He is. How can you glorify God today?
