Father’s Day - Wednesday

John 14:2
”There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?” (NLT)

Over the past several months, I’ve been working diligently trying to knock out several projects around the house. Whether it’s building a fence, renovating a bathroom, patching drywall, or working in the yard, there’s been plenty to do around my house as my wife and I prepare for the arrival of our son. With all of these projects has come a substantial amount of trash, dirt, and dust. All of the mess has left my very pregnant wife frustrated at times because she’s just ready for the house to be “ready.” The other day, I decided that it was finally time to move all of the tools out of our master bedroom and vacuum up the mess. My wife, Gentry, was elated. She sat on the bed with a big smile on her face watching me clean. She couldn’t just let me work, though. She had to add a little commentary.

“Are you nesting?” Gentry asked.

To which I rapidly responded, “Am I WHAT?!”

“Nesting?” She giggled.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m not nesting or whatever. I’m just trying to get this house ready!” I loudy exclaimed over the whirl of the vacuum.

She was so happy to see me working and preparing our house for what is coming. While all of us have different experiences with our earthly fathers, we can all live in the hope and the freedom of knowing that our Heavenly Father promises us a wonderful room in His home. One of the unique characteristics of God is that He’s a provider. To all you fathers and future fathers, we have a responsibility to provide as well. Ultimately, our responsibility is to provide in such a way for our spouses and kids that they see their Ultimate Provider and Good Father through our example. The way we provide for our families should point to the way our Heavenly Father has provided for us.

I’d do just about anything to provide for my family. I, however, will never call it “nesting”...

Wednesday’s Reflection

How excited do you think God is for His children to be welcomed home into the place He has prepared? Spend some time thanking God that you have an eternal home, and jot down a few thoughts about what you’re looking forward to in Heaven.
