Why Not Now: Strengthening My Relationship with Jesus - Monday

Luke 10:38
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. (NIV)

The verse that opens our day tells us simply that Martha opened her home to Jesus. That speaks well of her. Hospitality is almost always the mark of a kind and generous person. It’s not often that selfish, greedy people show great hospitality. If you ask me, Martha is off to a solid start in one of her few appearances in the Bible.

During the next couple of days, we’ll review the story of Martha and her sister Mary. The details of just a few verses included in the book of Luke teach us a lot about a relationship with Jesus. The point of our time together this week is to evaluate our relationship with Jesus. If you’ve heard of the “D.T.R.” (Define The Relationship) conversation before, this is certainly an important relationship to define.

It is one thing to invite Jesus into your home, as Martha did, but it is an entirely different thing to invite Him into your heart. Jesus is more than a dinner guest; He is the Savior of the world. His mission is to save us from our sins. If you have never let Jesus into your heart—way down deep in your heart—then it’s time to reevaluate. I’m glad you read this devotional, but if this is the sum total of your thoughts about Him during your day, I encourage you to do more. Like any relationship, we have to spend a quantity of quality time together. Do you spend quality time with Jesus? Do you spend large amounts of time with Him also?

Monday’s Reflection

If you haven’t given your life to Jesus, what is holding you back? If you have given your life to Jesus but feel distant from Him, what has created that gap? If you do enjoy a strong relationship with Jesus, then share Him with someone else today.
