The Baby & The Bathwater – Build a Strong Church - Thursday

Today’s Verse

Matthew 19:14

But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” (NLT)

I distinctly remember what church was like when I was in elementary school and even before that. Today my office is near the same place where I used to spend summers doing arts and crafts and having snack time. What stands out to me is how much bigger everything seemed back then. Maybe you can relate to the feeling of looking back at experiences from childhood and realizing how huge they felt at the time!

Jesus calls us to have childlike faith, a faith that is humble and full of wonder. Faith unhindered by life’s scars, cynicism, or fear. There’s no better way to relearn what faith looks like through the eyes of a child than by spending time with children. In Matthew 18:3-4, Jesus emphasizes this:

I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Serving in Children’s Ministry is a great way to reconnect with the sense of awe in your faith and to make it feel big again. For me it began 10 years ago, serving with kids. It not only made a huge difference in my life but also in the lives of the children I had the privilege of serving. All it took was starting a conversation and committing to show up consistently.

REFLECTION

Are there ways you can start to simplify and re-engage with your child-like faith? Everyone could benefit from being involved in Children’s Ministry. Start that conversation today right here!
