This past weekend was challenging at Southland—that’s for certain. A challenge that you may have forgotten, however, was the challenge to mentor. Our hosts did an amazing job of laying out what serving children at a school near you looks like. Primarily the requirement is to have 30 minutes available. Let’s dig into why mentoring matters.
The Apostle Paul is an awesome example of someone who, despite being fully aware of his own shortcomings, served with humility and dedication. Paul mentored several key people in the early Church, including Titus, Timothy, and Silas. He spent significant time pouring into their lives and instilling confidence, value, and faith. What stands out to me is how a man like Paul, who faced immense hardship, spent a large portion of his life in prison and lived through many difficult and precarious situations, made time to encourage others. His commitment to mentoring wasn’t just about passing on knowledge—it was about building character, investing in future leaders, and helping provide insight.
Thinking about Paul's example: Are there people in your life that you could mentor? Or maybe there’s someone older or more experienced you could invite into your life to invest in you consistently?
