The Verdict Is In: The Peace of God — Thursday

Proverbs 16:9
We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.
(NLT)

As a kid, whenever I was asked: “What do you want to be when you grow up” I always answered one of three ways. I wanted to be an archaeologist (because of Indiana Jones), a stuntman, or an engineer. Don’t ask me why those were my picks. In high school, I realized that the most realistic of those three was an engineer and I started making plans. I took extra classes in high school. I applied for engineering programs and eventually started taking classes at the Speed School at UofL.

God had other plans – It took 3 semesters (one at Louisville, one at UK, and one working full time) to submit to God’s plans finally. Looking back, it’s evident that He had much better plans for me than I had for myself. I won’t say that going into full-time ministry was easy every step, there have been some incredibly hard seasons that have made me second guess my decision, but it’s been clear that God has guided my steps the entire way.

If you know me, I have the tendency to be a control freak. But the truth is, it doesn’t matter what plans we make for ourselves, they are simply plans. God is the one who ultimately controls our steps and our path. We can fight for control (and ultimately lose) or submit to Him and let Him lead us.

The amazing thing in all of this is that he cares for us! We know this because of His sacrifice, which we celebrated this past Sunday! He knew you and I would mess up so bad we would need a Savior. He knew this and cared for us long before we knew we would need His help. He is an all-powerful and eternally good God. Why wouldn’t we want to let Him take control of our life?

Thursday’s Reflection

Are there things in your life you need to let go of? Are there decisions you’re wrestling with right now that you need to turn over to God? Do you need to trust Him fully with your life and accept Jesus as your Savior? Take some time to talk to Him today. Surrender anything you’re holding onto over to Him.

We'd love to chat if you’d like to talk to someone about taking the next step in following Jesus or have questions about salvation or baptism. Call us at 859-224-1600 or go to southland.church/baptism to start that conversation!
