To the Ends of the Earth: Protecting Children — Thursday

Psalm 24:1
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. (NLT)

This series we are in can feel overwhelming. We already know of the problems in our own lives, in our own city, and then we add on the problems of the world. When that happens, we need to be reminded of how big our God is.

Right now, as I’m writing this, there is a globe of the world on my desk. I can pick it up, spin it around, and see everything pretty quickly. It still seems big to me with so many places I’ve never visited or even heard of, but in my hands, it feels small

It reminds me of one of my favorite parts of children’s ministry. Over the years, I’ve had many opportunities to participate in children’s ministry, and it always amazes me how some of the most timeless, deep truths of Scripture can be simplified into children’s songs. One prime example that many of us are familiar with is the song, “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands.” (Sorry if it gets stuck in your head all day.)

God is so great that He holds the entire world, and everything therein, in His holy hands! Not only that, but He is sovereign over everything happening here on our planet. That’s why Scott started this To the Ends of the Earth series quoting Psalm 24:1—“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him.”

Why include a children’s song during a week of devotions on sex trafficking? Because we need to remember Who we are praying to. We need to remember how powerful He is and how much He loves us.

Thursday’s Reflection

As you pray today, thank God for who He is. Rest in His immeasurableness. Admit that the problems feel overwhelming and insurmountable to us, but thank Him for the fact that He is not overwhelmed, and He’s not scratching His head wondering what to do. He is at work and wants us to join Him in that good work.
