Winter Fire – Everlasting Father - Thursday
Today’s Verse
Luke 15:20b
When he was still a long way off, his father saw him. His heart pounding, he ran out, embraced him, and kissed him. (MSG)
In my years and years of research, I’ve concluded that there are two types of families on Christmas morning:
Family 1: Kids wait in their room (or in a different part of the house) until it’s time to open presents. Then they are allowed into the room and one by one, presents are opened. Everyone takes their turn and no one opens presents while someone else is opening one.
Family 2: This is the Christmas equivalent of the storming of the Bastille. You better be up early because Christmas is happening whether you’re there or not. It’s mass chaos for about 5 minutes, while wrapping paper flies around. Presents are all opened at the same time… and there’s a good chance you opened a present that wasn’t even yours.
I have always been in Family 1 and will die on the hill that it is far superior. However, there is something refreshing about unbridled joy and excitement when kids run to their presents and rip the paper off faster than the land speed record. Actually, that’s how I picture this scene in Luke: I see this father (a representation of our Everlasting Father) sprinting towards his son. No care is given to his dignity or past sins. He’s simply ecstatic to see his boy. And that’s how our Everlasting Father sees you. He longs for you. He has been eagerly waiting for you. Maybe you’ve drifted away over the past year, or maybe you’ve never really known Him. Just say the word, and He’ll come running! Don’t wait until this season is over. Come to the Father, accept His love and forgiveness. He won’t just be there waiting for you, He’ll be embracing you with the excitement of a thousand kids on Christmas morning!
