Winter Fire – Everlasting Father - Wednesday
Today’s Verse
Psalm 23:1-2
The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. (NLT)
In hindsight, I had a midlife crisis last year, but I didn’t know it at the time. I had a daughter in college and a son who had just started high school. I was looking for something fun to do to take up some of my newfound free time. Typically I would look for some new hobby to start. (My garage is filled with remnants of previous hobbies from knife making to leather working to carpentry.) But I had a different kind of idea last year. I decided it would be fun to start a business in my spare time. What I had not planned for was how fast it would grow!
Now here’s the behind-the-scenes part of the story that’s important: I tend to be an obsessive and driven person. So, instead of taking a step back and calibrating, I kept driving forward. I would work at Southland during the day and then working the equivalent of a full-time job in the evenings and on weekends. I never saw my family and I was slowly burning myself out. That was, until the Holy Spirit had a little conversation with me.
Our Everlasting Father is offering us peace. He’s offering us rest. And during this season, it's probably the gift we all need most! So take some time to slow down. Put it on your calendar if you have to, and keep that appointment. Spend time with family and friends doing nothing. More importantly, spend time with your Everlasting Father. Talk to Him, listen to Him. And accept the rest and the peace that He’s offering to you.
REFLECTION
Schedule 30 minutes on your calendar today to read Psalm 23. Go through it verse by verse and after each verse, take a couple minutes to talk to your Everlasting Father about what He’s trying to say to you. Don’t rush this. Slow down and listen. Then write down what He’s saying to you once you’ve finished.
