Deconstruction: The Bedroom – Sexual Purity Matters - Friday

Today’s Verse

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. (NIV)

Growing up I witnessed firsthand the challenges my father faced with smoking, alcohol, and infidelity. While these experiences were undoubtedly difficult, they also helped shape me into the person I am today. I made a conscious decision to avoid these harmful behaviors, and I'm grateful for the strength and resilience I developed as a result.

In addition to these challenges, I also encountered other struggles, such as pornography. I first encountered explicit images as a child, and it had a negative impact on my life for many years. I wish I had realized the harm it could cause sooner, but I eventually decided to overcome this addiction.

I share my experiences not to self-deprecate or to paint a negative picture of my past, but to offer hope and encouragement to others who may be facing similar challenges. If you're struggling with addiction or harmful behaviors, know that you are not alone. There is hope for healing and recovery.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:27-30, 'You have heard that it was said, "You shall not commit adultery." But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.' This verse reminds us that even our thoughts can have a significant impact on our lives.

If you're struggling with pornography, know that there is help available. Seek support from friends, family, or a counselor. Join a support group or find an accountability partner. And most importantly, lean on God for strength and guidance.

Remember, you are not defined by your struggles. You are loved and valued by God, and He desires to help you overcome your challenges.

For those who are supporting someone struggling with addiction, remember to offer compassion and understanding. Avoid judgment and focus on providing support. Encourage them to seek help, and let them know that you're there for them, no matter what.

Together, with God's help, we can overcome all of life's challenges and live lives of freedom and joy.
