To the Ends of the Earth: Serving the Forgotten — Thursday

1 John 4:19
We love because he first loved us. (ESV)

Part of Lifeline’s story this past Sunday was the work they did in a place called Ocotillo. The people they worked with were squatters, and they were moved to the edge of that area far away from resources. Lifeline went with this group and helped them develop the area they were placed in. Now, years later, this area has developed into a place of sustainability. The church there is so strong, that they are now reaching out to another community of squatters to help them sustain and survive.

1 John 4:19 clearly states the motivation for Christians to love others: “We love because he first loved us.” The believers in Ocotillo were loved by Jesus, given hope and a future, and when they received that love, they then shared it with others. From sharing food during the pandemic to sharing resources for their church, they did not keep what they were given to themselves.

In the days leading up to Thanksgiving, our church helped God’s Pantry and other community food banks provide meals for thousands of people. Additionally, some 1,300 kids in central Kentucky will have a special Christmas because of the overflowing generosity of the people who call Southland home.

Thank you for allowing Jesus’ compelling love to compel you to give and serve. We’ve seen this week that when believers come together and experience the love of Jesus, it spills over into blessings for people in need around us.

Thursday’s Reflection

Thank God for the love we share in Jesus. Take a moment to reflect on how you’ve seen His love compel you to love others.
