In Case of Emergency – Stay Calm - Friday

Today’s Verse

1 Peter 1:5-6

And through your faith, God is protecting you by His power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. (NLT)

There’s this old song that I absolutely love and want us to wrap up this week’s devotions with. (It’s always obvious when the worship leader is writing the devotions because they’re full of song references, am I right?) This song is a hymn that was then modernized, and I’m going to attach two versions for you to listen to today. The lyrics remain the same and are a beautiful picture of how we should live each day of our lives. The song is Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus, and the lyrics go like this:

O soul are you weary and troubled
No light in the darkness you see
There's light for a look at the Savior
And life more abundant and free

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace

As believers, we are called to lift our eyes above the temporary concerns of this world and develop an eternal perspective that shapes our daily lives. It’s easier said than done, but focusing on the fact that our lives here are temporary and this world is not our home puts everything from the complete upsets to the daily annoyances in perspective. It also puts into perspective how vitally important it is that we love Jesus and spread the good news of Him to others. Tomorrow on earth is not promised. Today, we must do everything we can to share how Jesus has changed our lives and one of the ways we do that is through living by example: respond to situations and people calmly and wisely; avoid being impulsive and reactive; remember that we have hope because of Jesus and we have an inheritance that will never perish, spoil, or fade!

As we make daily decisions, we can ask ourselves: How does this choice impact my eternity? How does it reflect my trust in God? Am I investing my time and resources in things that matter for eternity? This intentional mindset keeps our hearts aligned with God's purposes and helps us live with an eternal focus until the day He returns.

REFLECTION

Let the words of this song sink in today and thank God for the eternal perspective we can all have because of what Jesus did for us.
